On Oct. 25 the Varsity Football team fell just short to the Farmington Harrison Hawks with a final score of 26-27. One point from winning.

A slow first half full of turnovers from both teams led to a field goal and a touchdown, but Harrison had scored three touchdowns and missed only one of their extra points.

But the second half was where all the action happened.

“We could not have played worse in the first half but at least we outscored Harrison 16-7 in the second half.” Senior Justin Allor said.

The Cougars rallied to a 26-20 lead through Allor’s passing and seniors Sean Scullen, Nick Rangos, and Joe Cox hard running.

The Cougars overcame the first half deficit of 10-20 with a pass to senior Alex Schnurr from Allor, giving them only a little momentum and only a four point hole to recover from.

With only 1:53 left in the game, the boys conjured up some ‘trickery’ with a “hook and ladder” play– where a player catches the ball then laterals the ball back to another player.

The score came with a now huge amount of momentum, getting everybody in the stadium jumping and screaming. But what affected the score more was the lead.

With the first lead of the game, the Cougars Defense took the field and Senior Ryan Andrusz took advantage of his height with finally intercepting the ball after knocking so many down at the line of scrimmage.

With all this momentum and emotions flowing, the Cougars put up another three points to force the Hawks to score a touchdown.

So again the Defense takes the field.

Harrison made a few plays that put them in the red zone of the Cougars. The Cougars gave up the touchdown and extra point to give Harrison a 1 point lead and the win.

But the Cougars will still be playing, this time against Adams on Nov.1.

“We went out there thinking we had the win and forgot that there was still football to be played,” Junior Even Engle said.
