Club raises money to build schools

Students have the opportunity to change lives just by eating dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings.

On March 31, the Stoney Creek High School chapter of buildOn will hold a fundraising event at Buffalo Wild Wings on Walton Road. Twenty percent of the purchases that evening will go towards the organization, which, according to their website, aims to end the cycle of poverty by building schools in six countries: Haiti, Mali, Nicaragua, Malawi, Nepal, and Senegal.

Junior Natasha Desai, who founded the SCHS chapter last fall, hopes to raise around $4000.

“We really hope we can get a nice outcome from it and raise a lot of money,” she said.

Raising money isn’t the only purpose for the event, though. Desai wants to bring awareness to the cause.

“Sometimes we forget about all the countries out there who don’t have education and whose kids really want it there and that’s an important topic to bring forward,” she said.

National Honor Society members who attend the event will receive one service point if they take a card to submit with the rest of their points. All who come to support the buildOn sales must bring the buildOn fundraiser certificate to give their server at the time of their order.
