When 50 Model UN students returned from their three-day Michigan State University trip on March 16, seven awards arrived with them.

Many different awards were given out, including the highest possible award ‘Best Delegate’, which was granted to senior Kayla Fedewa. Other award winners were junior Alex Landuyt (‘Outstanding Delegate’), junior Alex Kisil (‘Book Award’), and senior Phillip Mai (‘Book Award’). Junior Alex Hadd and junior Karolina Przybylski took home honorable mentions and Stephen Gurgurich won a ‘Verbal Accommodation’.

The competitions were based in different committees where students represented different people or groups. Landuyt, for example, was American politician Chuck Hagel, and Przybylski and Hadd were representing Cuba.

“These awards were given over schools that have attended all 14 MSU conferences and schools that have Model UN as a class that meets every single school day!” Model UN adviser Steven Book said. “Despite these obstacles we were able to come home with six more award winners than we had last year. So to say that I am proud would be a huge understatement.”
