Varsity Soccer Playing Eisenhower in District Finals

by Ryan Sennett

In their final game the girls on the Varsity soccer put up a great fight against Eisenhower in the final Districts game.

Played at Utica High on May 31 against the 4th ranked in the state Eagles on a hot early morning the 3rd ranked Cougars just fell behind in the final 15 minutes of the game.

Before a minute of play senior Madison Schupbach scored a goal putting the Cougars up very early 1-0.

Sophomore Taylor Paradoski followed up Schupbach by scoring a header about ten minutes into the game and helped the Cougars pick up a 2-0 lead.

The teams stalemated for the next 40 minutes of play until Eisenhower scored a trio of goals and only left ten minutes for the girls to make up for the deficit.

“It was a great season with the team we accomplished a lot and even though it didn’t end the way we wanted it to we should all be very proud of what we did,” said junior Maddie Toth.

After a very close header that hit off of the post of the goal the girls were unable to score against the Eagles and were unable to move onto regionals.

“It was a tough way to end the season. A lot of us had different ideas on how it would turn out. These girls are family and when you lose seven girls that are your family-that’s tough. I wish I could go back to that game-heck I know we all do. But life goes on, I’m just glad we have one more year here.  And our seniors will be missed more than they’ll know,” said junior Courtney Solek.
